Should you do cosplay at Pyrkon?

Should you do cosplay at Pyrkon?

Every year, the grounds of the Poznań Fair, in addition to regular attendees, are filled with people in colorful costumes, ranging from characters in Japanese uniforms, to princesses, to warriors in large armor. They cause a lot of surprise and amazement not only among those living in Poznan, who are rather far from being familiar with the subject, but also among the regulars of the described Festival. Surely each of us, has encountered them at least once in his life. Whether it's in person, because no Pyrkon, after all, can exist without cosplayers, or indirectly, through photos you've seen on social media, or on YouTube coverage of events like these. Cosplayers are able to spice up any of the festival editions and are now an integral part of the festival, but also other types of conventions, larger or smaller, and even promotional events for which they are hired. If we have no idea what such disguises actually are, we will try to explain this issue in detail below. We will also answer a very important question, namely: Whether to do cosplay at Pyrkon?

Cosplay - what it actually is?

The term Cosplay, undoubtedly derives from Japan, and means the impersonation of fictional characters (and it's not just about the costume, but also the proper feeling of the way of being and the character of the character in question). It is an artistic passion that can take on amazing facets. The beginnings of cosplay (although not yet by that name at the time), could be seen as early as the late 1930s at the 1st convention. in New York called the World Science Fiction Convention. Inspiration for costumes, cosplayers usually look to comic books, video games or TV series for inspiration. Their incredible passion and disguises, we can see just during conventions and events such as Pyrkon.

Cosplay is an art

Like all other artists, cosplayers have a head full of ideas. Sometimes they try to introduce various variety in the costumes, adding details not found in the official graphics. They spend a lot of time to be able to create embroidery on a sizable cloak or to add various embellishments on armor. Sometimes the characters are dressed completely differently than on the original reef - we are limited only by our imagination. You would like to become Captain America, but at the same time you prefer Japanese pop culture? Anything is possible! Captain America wearing Sailor Moon. Poison Ivy's outfit is not to our liking, or we are ashamed to show up in such skimpy clothing? No problem! We can then create a beautiful dress with ivy as the theme. Or perhaps we do not have the desire and time to make a costume, but we have a dress in blue in the closet? A few additions and we can become Cinderella. Keep in mind, though, that it is not always necessary to spend long hours while creating armor for a stormtrooper or sewing a cape. In this art, the idea is to at least somewhat resemble the particular character we want to impersonate, but above all, we must have fun. It has become popular to make so-called instant cosplay, or incomplete costumes, or closet cosplay, which is to wear a closet that will just happen to match the chosen character in color, cut or overall appearance.

Cosplay - is it fun for children?

Certainly, many cosplayers have heard repeatedly that they should stop playing dress-up, as it is an activity meant only for children. It probably also crossed our minds that we are far too old for this. In fact, the largest part of the costumes we can get in stores are those found in the children's section. Who, if not our kids pester us for an Elsa or Batman costume? This does not mean, however, that cosplay is only for the youngest, as there is no age limit.

Cosplay costume - how to make it?

The most difficult, and most important, part of cosplay is the costume. This is the basis, the most expensive, but also definitely an interesting part of the image. It can be implemented at different levels of difficulty. There are at least a few methods to buy or make a cosplay outfit. Select cosplayers prefer to sew the costume themselves at home, while others use the help of a professional. The costume can also be purchased either stationary or online, but care must be taken when doing so. There is a considerable risk of purchasing a low-quality product made of the wrong fabric, in the wrong size or in the wrong color. How to make our cosplay really interesting? With the help of various accessories. In order for the image to become a whole, we must have the right footwear, jewelry and other details (for example, a backpack, crown, hat, wings, hair band or pin). Everything will depend on the character we choose: look very carefully at the accessories and additional characters in the environment and try to acquire them.
